The Murge area of Puglia has always been one of the traditional homes of Italy’s fine upholstery industry.

Unfortunately, cheap labour from abroad has now taken away the area’s crown.

At Nicoline we work exclusively with expert Italian artisans, and our fine upholstery is still a source of pride and a difference appreciated around the world.

The upholstery and stitching stage plays a vital role in making a sofa.

In our specialist department, seamstresses who learned their craft from their mothers and grandmothers assemble the cut parts following stringent, established procedures, from bonding to felling. This stage – which may take hours to complete even for a single sofa – is fundamental if the covering is to fit perfectly over the padding. Zips, covers, Velcro fastenings and all other covering components are added at this stage of the process.
